"Binding Estimate" - NOT!!
|
I had a very bad experience with Moving USA. I had to empty my father's house in PA the end of May 2013. My daughter in NC wanted my mother's old piano, so I called around for estimates. Moving USA gave me a "binding estimate of $833 and told me that was a minimum -- that I could add some things for the same price. So I began to mention other items to the rep and asked her to tell me when I began to exceed the minimum. She never said I had. The day the movers showed up -- the day I HAD to get my dad's stuff out of the house -- the charge I was given was over $1200, which included, get this, an extra $250 "handling fee" for the piano! Needless to say I was upset. The mover talked to his supervisor. They made minor adjustments. I told them to proceed at the $1200 cost (I had to move that day) but I would contest the charge. I kept asking, "What does 'binding estimate' mean, if it can change between the tie on the phone and the time the movers show up? Who is bound by the estimate?" I learned the hard way that I was the one who was bound -- or better, caught. Three months have gone by without any reply from the supervisor or others to whom I left messages. Not happy. BUYER BEWARE!
